Johan Hybschmann : Architecture Information
Work by Johan Hybschmann, The Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL
Johan Hybschmann
Unit 11

Johan explores the appropriation by American Federal Buildings of established Grecian architectural forms and tropes. This, it was felt by the founding fathers, added a certain democratic and libertarian emphasis to the buildings and the institutions housed within. Johan uses the tactic of anamorphosis to reconstruct these American icons as a series of rotational and condensed architectural figures that are then reused to create other formal and programmatic interventions which in themselves fuse the public and the private; making the point that in the modern world the old dichotomy between public and private is much more strained that it used to be.
